Practice Areas

Complex Land Use and Planning Matters

We represent developers, property owners, governmental bodies, educational institutions, affected individuals and advocacy groups in all types of administrative proceedings addressing the proposed entitlement and development of land. This representation includes matters relating to zoning, comprehensive planning and campus planning for primary, secondary, and higher education. We combine deep public-sector relationships throughout the State with an unparalleled understanding of the law of land use and property rights.

  • We formulate strategies for the design and approval of large-scale commercial real estate and community development projects.

  • Both private and public sector clients have come to rely on our guidance relating to innovative value-creation opportunities realized through collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and the effective use of state and local law.

  • We guide clients through the formulation and execution of strategies for successfully terminating existing condominium developments, making way for significant redevelopment opportunities.

  • We are frequently brought in to assist property owners and local governments to help navigate the often controversial and difficult questions relating to the designation, preservation, and/or redevelopment of historic structures.

  • We assist public and private educational institutions seeking to develop or expand campuses, build consensus with stakeholders, and craft legislative initiatives that help them achieve their goals.

  • Given our deep knowledge relating to the intersection between the law and land use, our lawyers are often called upon to share their insights and experiences.

Business and Municipal Litigation and Dispute Resolution

The firm has extensive experience in the litigation of complex business and real estate disputes throughout Florida, in both state and federal courts, and at both the trial and appellate levels. We are highly selective with respect to the litigation we undertake on behalf of clients and limit our caseload to those cases which present unique issues of law, or which would benefit from our experience in having litigated and tried many complex cases involving our core practice areas. We are often called upon to serve as local counsel to numerous national law firms involving litigation in all levels of state and federal courts in Florida, and pride ourselves in our ability to identify, negotiate, and consummate the settlement of extremely contentious matters.

  • We represent landowners, landlords, and developers in all facets of litigation to promote or defend their rights and interests at all levels of state and federal court.

  • We pride ourselves on the results we achieve for our clients on complex matters at trial, appeals of court rulings, or appeals of development orders.

  • The law governing Florida condominiums, community associations and subdivisions can be complex. Our team’s broad experience in this field allows us to identify key issues and formulate effective strategies for developers, associations, or other interested parties.

  • We represent municipalities as outside counsel in defense of executive, quasi-judicial or legislative action, often relating to our expertise in land use or property rights.

  • We have been called upon to assist clients to navigate through high-stakes election-law matters.

  • Our representation of landowners includes extensive experience dealing with land development restrictions, ordinances, or other state or municipal actions that threaten or adversely affect the value or use of real property without just compensation.
